Beat Generation

When I hear the term "beat generation", I think about people who are independent and free and go off on their own, as in the term "beat it."  The "beat generation" may be the generation of people who left the environment in which they were comfortable, and traveled to different places to gain new experiences.  These people left behind all of their worries and anxieties, in search of making new discoveries.
